Battlefield of the Mind

I did finish this awhile back. Extremely helpful to say the least. Joyce Meyer related to me so well, it felt like I'm in a counselling session with a counsellor who understands me. It does not matter what denomination you are or whether you are critical of the author's beliefs, there are universal, valuable and godly truths in this book, and these enriched my day to day living. This is way better than any psychological self-help book because it's Christ centered. So just to mention few of the many benefits I gained:
I had to control my thought life, ie don't dwell on rubbish, don't dwell on my worries because I gain nothing, but focus on God who is bigger than all my troubles. It helped me with anxiety and taught me to give my worries to God. And things we neglect as Christians is being grateful and joyful because it really makes a difference in the state of your mind. If only someone had given me this book earlier, it'd have saved a lot of pain. The scenarios presented are so familiar. There are so many scriptures quoted, which I will love to store in my mind.

Definitely keep this, there's so much wisdom to absorb so I know I'll be reading it again. Read it during both good and bad seasons. In fact fill your mind up with powerful scripture during good seasons so you are armed to face bad seasons or attacks from the enemy, etc. May the mind of Christ be in us.

Church: Why Bother? by Philip Yancey
Church

This book is an interesting read into the problems of choosing and committing to regularly attending a church. The book points out the problems of many churches like exclusivity, legalism, racism, and intolerance. Many Christians leave the church feeling disappointed and hurt. This book look at us as humans made for relationships and why we should go to church and why we should be actively participating in church.

I find Yancey a little hard to relate to. His American experiences and examples are different to how I have experienced church in Australia so although the writing is from the heart it feels foreign to me. It still is a enjoyable read and evokes personal reflection on why it is we go to church.

Get Out of That Pit by Beth Moore
Christian Living-General

This is a very honest book. The author brings you into her life recounting stages of her life when she was in a pit, knowing very well what it is like. Beth Moore describes a pit as a place where you feel stuck and trapped and you tend to feel your only options are to misbehave or submit to pit life.

The book talks about what a pit is, how we get into a pit and how to get out of that pit in short, digestible chapters and walks gently with the reader with thoughtful allegories to bring the reader into realisation that they don't have to live in a pit and that only God can get us out of the pit.

Psalm 40:2

He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet upon a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.

This is an especially good read if you are feeling down and need something to pick you up. There is life out of the pit.

Well I'm liking this blog because it makes me commit to finishing the books I started reading.

The Secret

This book called "The Secret" is a desperate cry out form all who rely on it. They are obviously searching for that 'thing' out there that will save them from themselves.

God (Jesus) is the ONLY one who can do that. Please pray for those who don't know there is another way - the right way. Tell all you can about the truth, Our Lord Jesus Christ!
